he was not to use it. This was the rod of God (Exod. 4:20; 17:9) through which God had worked a number of spectacular miracles including bringing forth enough water from a rock to provide for millions of people and their cattle in the desert (Exod. 17:1–7). Thus, Moses used that which belonged to God, was God’s instrument of power, and which God had commanded him to take as an instrument of disobedience. So it is that the Bible can be used either as an instrument of salvation or of rebellion. 20:10
